Signs Of Burnout: Burnout is a medical condition that is defined as physical, emotional or mental exhaustion, accompanied by decreased motivation, lowered performance and negative attitudes towards oneself and others. Usually, we do not realise that we are burnout until it's too late when it becomes difficult for the body to function with the daily chores. According to Cleveland Clinic, burnout also happens when your work-life balance gets out of sync. Clinical Psychologist, Dr Julie Smith, in an Instagram post lists down some tell-tale signs that you are headed towards burnout.

1. Disconnection From People Around You
One of the prominent signs of burnout is withdrawing from your social circle. If you notice yourself ignoring your near and dear ones, whether digitally or in person, this may be a common sign of burnout.
2. Procrastination
Procrastination is the act of delaying or putting off tasks until the last minute or past their deadline. Some researchers define procrastination as a "form of self-regulation failure characterised by the irrational delay of tasks despite potentially negative consequences.
3. No Self Care
When we are headed towards burnout, self-care usually goes out of the window. You may barely find the energy to even exercise, diet or sleep on time might feel too much to do.
4. Physical And Emotional Exhaustion
You generally feel tired but can’t sleep at night properly. This tiredness, exhaustion and fatigue may be present without any reason and might make you feel overwhelmed.
Tips To Overcome Burnout
1. According to Dr Smith, one should start working out what you can say no to. Often we feel obliged to say yes to every request or opportunity. When our health is in question, it’s a pretty good reason to practise the art of saying no to things that are not an absolute priority.
2. Prioritise self-care: Get back to basics because they are the foundations of good mental and physical health. Make sleep, healthy food, hydration, exercise and social time the top of your to-do list. And don’t underestimate the power of these things to build your resilience.
3. Re-think what matters: We are vulnerable to burnout when we are working hard on something that is not in line with our own values.
4. Get support: If you are worried about your mental health in any way, seeking support from a trusted friend or a professional is key. Human connection is a powerful tool. Use it.
