JE Lifestyle Desk: National Doctor's Day 2023 is celebrated every year on July 1 in India and is dedicated to honouring and appreciating physicians and the crucial role they play in society. The day was first celebrated 32 years ago in 1991 to commemorate the contributions of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy to the medical profession.

This day serves as an opportunity for individuals and communities to express gratitude to doctors for their tireless dedication, compassion, and expertise in caring for patients and promoting public health.
Doctors are among those who give everyone life; in fact, many people regard them as gods and soldiers. Doctors are the ones who play a vital role in people's lives as they save us from every small, big or life-threatening disease. However, with the rapid growth in the medical field, a large number of doctors have been witnessing mental health issues.
It's very easy to say that doctors have the cure for any ailment, but when it comes to them, they're also experiencing stress in different ways. High-stress levels can have serious consequences for doctors, specifically those who work with traumatized patients. Stress can be caused by mental exhaustion and depersonalization, resulting in significant and ongoing stressors and illnesses such as depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, broken relationships and addictions.

In an exclusive interview with Jagran English, Dr Shaloo Varma, SVP Medical Directorate, Pristyn Care, talked about how all the doctors even cope with the day-to-day stress level. Dr Shaloo said that doctors are well-prepared to navigate the daily stressors that come with their profession. "Through their rigorous training, they develop resilience and coping mechanisms to manage the challenges they face," Dr Shaloo said.
"Recognizing the importance of self-care, doctors should prioritise taking breaks and finding moments for themselves to relax and recharge. Some of them even discover solace in their hobbies, showcasing their talents as musicians or engaging in fitness activities to maintain their physical and mental well-being," she said.
"By actively seeking balance and pursuing their passions outside of medicine, doctors are able to effectively cope with day-to-day stress and continue delivering exceptional care to their patients," Dr Shaloo further added.
