WHO data reveals that 99% of the world's population breathes air exceeding safe limits with low- and middle-income countries bearing the brunt. Delhi, in particular, has been battling poor air quality for over a month with hazardous AQI levels posing serious health risks to its residents.

A leak of methyl isocyanate gas from the Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal, India, killed an estimated 3,787 people instantly and caused long-term health effects, including respiratory problems, birth defects and cancer, affecting over 500,000 people.
