PCOS Awareness Month 2024: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, commonly known as PCOS, is a health condition that primarily affects women. It’s crucial for every woman to have a clear understanding of this condition, which often goes unnoticed or misunderstood. PCOS has a significant impact on women’s health, particularly on hormones, the menstrual cycle, fertility, and metabolism. Key symptoms include irregular periods, excessive weight gain, acne, breakouts, and excessive hair loss.

If PCOS is not treated in a timely manner, it can lead to serious health issues such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. PCOS can also affect mental health and emotional well-being. Therefore, it’s essential for women to educate themselves about PCOS to prevent long-term complications. Increased awareness also fosters a supportive and compassionate environment for open discussions about the condition.

In an interview with Jagran English, Dr. Deepali Lodh, a gynecologist and obstetrician at AIMS Hospital in Dombivli, Mumbai, emphasized the importance of recognizing the signs and symptoms of PCOS. She stressed that timely intervention is crucial for managing this condition.

According to Dr. Deepali, PCOS is an increasing concern among women of reproductive age. It is a hormonal condition that affects both physical and mental health. However, due to limited awareness, many women suffer in silence without seeking treatment. The causes of PCOS can include family history, insulin resistance, stress, and hormonal imbalances. Women must be vigilant about the symptoms of PCOS.
