Stroke prevention is very important, and lifestyle plays a big part in this. Stroke risk can be significantly decreased by leading a healthy lifestyle. Keeping a balanced diet, exercising regularly, controlling stress, and abstaining from tobacco and excessive alcohol use are all good ways to lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and preserve general vascular health.
These behaviors ultimately protect against strokes by maximizing blood flow and reducing the risk of blood clot development. Therefore, as a healthy lifestyle can lead to a longer life, it is important to consider this when trying to prevent strokes.

Dr. Atul Prasad, who is the Principal Director and HOD Neurology at BLK Max Super Speciality Hospital, exclusively told Jagran English about why education and lifestyle changes matter for preventing strokes.

Here Are Some Key Changes To Help In Stroke Prevention:
Manage Blood Pressure: Keep your blood pressure in a healthy range through diet, exercise, and medication if necessary.

Maintain A Healthy Diet: Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and low in saturated fats, cholesterol, and salt.
Exercise Regularly: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise per week.
Maintain A Healthy Weight: Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight reduces your risk of stroke.
Quit Smoking: Smoking is a major risk factor for stroke. Quitting significantly lowers your risk.
Limit Alcohol Consumption: If you drink, do so in moderation. Excessive alcohol can raise your risk.
Control Diabetes: Manage blood sugar levels through diet, exercise, and medication if needed.
Manage Cholesterol: Keep your cholesterol levels in check through diet, exercise, and medication, if necessary.
Reduce Stress: Practice stress-reduction techniques such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises.
Get regular check-ups: Visit your healthcare provider for routine check-ups and follow their recommendations.
Medication Adherence: If prescribed medication for conditions like hypertension or atrial fibrillation, take it as directed.
