The auspicious occasion of Sawan 2023 began on July 4 and will culminate on August 31, stretching for two months due to Adhik Maas. This year’s Sawan is of utmost special and rare as it will be observed for two months and has arrived after 19 years.

On the occasion of the first sawan somwar, devotees will observe a whole day-long fast to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. It is believed that the one who observed the fasts on sawan somwar, the deity showers their immense blessings of good fortune, health and prosperity on the devotee. Unmarried girls also observe the sawan somwar fast to get a husband like Lord Shiva. During the fasting period, the devotees abstain from consuming food and engage in the holy worship of Lord Shiva. Here are some health tips that you should follow to stay healthy and fit amid fasting during Sawan 2023.

Health Tips For Fasting During Sawan 2023

1. Stay Hydrated

During fasting, the devotees avoid eating food items throughout the day. Therefore, it becomes extremely important to keep yourself hydrated to maintain energy levels and keep the body functioning. You can drink tea, herbal drinks, lemon water, and homemade fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated and satiated.

2. Frequent Meals

While you are fasting, try to consume frequent meals to avoid draining energy from the body. Fasting does not mean that you have to starve yourself. You can include superfoods such as fresh fruits and vegetables in your fast diet to ensure you are full of energy and your blood sugar levels are balanced.

3. Cooking Methods

The way you cook your fast meal also plays an integral role in determining your health. It is important to choose proper cooking methods to get the maximum nutritional value of the meal. You can choose healthy cooking options such as boiling or steaming to enjoy the nutritional value of your food.

4. Swap Sugar With Jaggery

If you are fasting, try to replace your regular sugar with healthier options such as jaggery. Jaggery is an excellent sugar substitute and a great source of plant-based iron is essential for the formation of healthy blood and muscle cells. If you don’t get enough iron in your diet, you can develop iron deficiency anaemia, which makes it difficult to focus and can cause fatigue and muscle weakness, states WebMD.

5. Good Sleep

Sawan is a holy occasion that requires you to worship the deity with utmost dedication and devotion. But it is vital to make sure to give your body enough time to rest, rejuvenate and restore its energy levels. Ensure to get a good 7-8 hours of sleep to let your body rest and stay energised.
