JE Lifestyle Desk: The auspicious occasion of Sawan is just a few days ahead and devotees across the country are preparing for the festival. Also known as Shravan Maas, it is widely observed with great devotion and dedication throughout the country. This year, the auspicious month of Sawan will commence on July 04 and will culminate on August 31, 2023.

According to astrological calculations and the Hindu calendar, the Adhik Maas or Mal Maas has extended the duration of the Sawan month this year. The term of this year’s Shravan month is special as it is extending with a period of 59 days, which is rare and unique.

The sawan month is considered extremely auspicious to worship Lord Shiva and seek his blessings. Also in Sawan or Shravan month, we celebrate various other festivals such as Kajari Purnima, Nag Panchami, Raksha Bandhan, Krishna Janmashtami and many more. Although worshipping Lord Shiva is the main highlight of this auspicious month. People observe fasts every Monday of this month as it is believed that there are numerous benefits of worshipping Lord Shiva during Sawan.

According to Drik Panchang, all Mondays or Somwar(s) that fall during Shravan month are considered highly auspicious for fasting and are known as Shravan Somwar or Sawan Somwar Vrats. Many devotees observe sixteen Mondays or Solah Somwar fasting from the first Somwar of Sawan month.

Puja Vidhi For Worshipping Lord Shiva In Sawan 2023

Devotees should wake up early in the morning at Brahma muhurta and take a bath. Take Ganga Jal and sprinkle it all over your house. Visit the temple of Lord Shiva and perform Jalabhishek to the Shiv ling. Now, at your home, place an idol of Lord Shiva at your puja place and offer fresh flowers to the deity. Worship Bholenath and chant the holy mantra ‘Om Namah Shivay’. Mahamrityunjaya mantra is chanted 108 times in the name of Lord Shiva. Perform Rudra abhishek of Lord Shiva by mixing milk, curd, ghee, honey and Gangajal. Shiv Chalisa and Shiv Aarti to please the deity and seek blessings.
