Sharara vs Gharara: This Eid Al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, which falls on June 7 in India, will be celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm. The festival is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, which is the last month of the Islamic calendar and is based on the sighting of the crescent moon. The festive season marks the joy of celebration, family gathering and elegant ethnic fashion. Women, like every other festival, wonder what to wear on Bakrid, to celebrate the day. While the festival is associated with spiritual essence and delicious feasts, the clothing choice plays a major role in the festivity. Among the many traditional ensembles, shararas and ghararas have occupied an important position in the wardrobe and stand out as excellent festive wear. As both the apparel exude regal charm and timeless appeal, choosing between the two during Eid Al-Adha 2025 is quite a dilemma. Let’s look at whether shararas or ghararas is the perfect Bakrid outfit for you.
What Is Sharara?
A sharara resembles everything that is flowy and fabulous. The signature look features wide-legged pants that flare out straight from the waist, meaning that there is no break or joint at the knee. Sharara float when women move, giving them a major effortless glam vibe. The pants of the sharara are the star of the show, which are usually styled with a short kurti and a dupatta. They are perfect for being comfortable, however, still giving a charming and captivating look.

What Is Gharara?
Gharara is a pure regal unlike the easy-breezy silhouette of a sharara. This fits snugly from the waist to the knees and then flares out dramatically with a stitched seam right at the knee. The seam is usually decorated with intricate embroidery, lace or gota, giving it a very traditional, structured silhouette. This is well-known as the Lucknowi culture and gives an absolute classic vibe. They offer a blend of old-school with a modern edge. Ghararas are bold and dramatic, making a statement appearance.
