According to Dr. Madhulika, male infertility is a condition where a man is unable to produce enough sperm, which can complicate conception. Various factors can lead to infertility in men, such as issues with sperm production (spermatogenesis), low sperm count, absence of sperm in the semen, certain genetic disorders, swollen veins in the testicles, hormonal issues, and medical conditions like diabetes and autoimmune diseases. Age is a primary factor contributing to infertility, as sperm production decreases with age. It is important to consult a doctor if you notice symptoms like pain and inflammation near the testicle area, difficulty with ejaculation, or reduced sexual desire. Infertility is a serious concern that can significantly impact mental health, leading to issues such as anxiety and depression. Men may experience a range of emotions, including sadness, grief, guilt, low self-image, and self-doubt. Open communication with your spouse can help reduce this emotional distress. It is important to take necessary precautions and measures to maintain male fertility.
Why Does Delayed Ejaculation Happen?
Delayed ejaculation, or ejaculatory dysfunction, is a serious concern where it takes longer than expected for men to reach climax and ejaculate during sexual intercourse or they are unable to ejaculate at all (anejaculation). This can be frustrating and adversely affect mental health and self-esteem. To treat delayed ejaculation, it is essential to understand the root cause to find an effective diagnosis and treatment. Tips For Maintaining Male Fertility:
Exercise Regularly: Regular exercise can be highly beneficial for overall health and well-being. It helps maintain hormonal balance, increases sperm production, boosts testosterone levels, and improves reproductive health. Engaging in physical activities like running, weightlifting, jogging, and yoga for more than 30 minutes a day can increase stamina and reduce the risk of fertility issues.
Avoid Delaying Pregnancy Planning: Many couples delay pregnancy planning due to career ambitions and other priorities, often opting for advanced pregnancy planning in their late 30s. However, fertility rates and sperm quality decrease with age, making it essential to plan for pregnancy earlier. The ideal age range to plan for pregnancy is between 30 to 35, where the chances of conceiving naturally with fewer complications are higher. After 35 to 40, natural conception can become more challenging, affecting both mental and physical health.
Regular Check-Ups: Fertility issues can take a toll on mental health and raise many questions and concerns. Open conversations with doctors and expressing concerns about reproductive health can be helpful. Regular medical check-ups provide valuable insights into reproductive health and allow necessary steps to resolve issues. Men can consult doctors and undergo fertility tests, such as semen analysis, genetic testing, hormone testing, and physical examination, to get a comprehensive understanding of their situation.
Limit Alcohol Consumption: Excessive alcohol intake can affect overall health and male fertility. It can cause various sperm abnormalities, such as low sperm count and reduced sperm volume, impacting sexual health. Limiting or quitting alcohol can improve reproductive and sexual health.
