THE VERY first surya grahan of the year will be witnessed today in various parts of the world. Surya Grahan or Solar Eclipse is a celestial event in which the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, obscuring the view of the Sun from a small part of the Earth, totally or partially. The first solar eclipse of the year 2023 is likely to take place on April 20, on the occasion of Vaishakh Amavasya.
According to Drik Panchang, the first surya grahan of the year is all set to take place on April 20. There will be a partial solar eclipse in Sydney with the beginning time at 01:36 PM. According to popular Hindu beliefs, there are some important things that one should keep in mind during the solar eclipse. While this Surya Grahan is likely to not be visible in India, still taking precautions is always fruitful.
Important Do's And Dont's You Must Follow During The Rare Hybrid Surya Grahan
1. During the solar eclipse, one should avoid sleeping, especially for elderly and ill persons. According to astrology, it has negative consequences on one’s health.
2. Cooking or eating must also be prevented during the solar eclipse as it can harm your health.
3. Deities are forbidden from being touched or worshipped. You must wash everything following the solar eclipse period, followed by your prayers.
4. Women who are expecting should not see the eclipse. They should also refrain from going outside or engaging in any activity that exposes them to the sun.
5. As per the scriptures, once the solar eclipse is over, people should take bath and wear new clothes and clean the house.
6. As per beliefs, people should put basil or tulsi leaves in water and all food before the solar eclipse starts.
7. Pregnant women should stay indoors during the eclipse, as it may harm the baby in the womb, as per Hindu beliefs.
8. The sprinkling of Gangajal is considered auspicious once the eclipse gets over.
9. Do not look at the sun directly with uncovered eyes during the eclipse as it can lead to permanent damage to your eyes.
10. Cooking and consuming any kind of food during Surya Grahan is considered inauspicious.
11. Refrain from buying any new property or practising any auspicious work during the solar eclipse.
12. Sleeping is prohibited during the period of Surya Grahan.
13. Do not use any sharp objects during the eclipse.
