Swami Vivekananda Death Anniversary: On July 4 every year, the death anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the Indian Hindu monk, philosopher, author, religious teacher, and the chief disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna, is observed. Born on January 12, 1863, as Narendra Nath Datta in Kolkata, into an aristocratic Bengali Kayastha family, Swami Vivekananda renounced worldly pleasures and became a sanyasi to serve humanity. He is considered one of the greatest spiritual leaders of India to bring the glory of the Hindu philosophy to the global platform. Vivekananda’s teachings transcend religion, time and borders. It was his famous speech at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago, 1893, that forever changed the way the world looked at India. Swami Vivekananda passed away on 4 July 1902, at the age of 39 years, in Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal. Throughout his life, Swami Vivekananda has shared ideas on self-belief, service, strength and spiritual growth that still inspire us today.

Vivekananda is considered the father of modern Indian nationalism and is also credited with raising interfaith awareness and bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion in the late nineteenth century. He was the founder of the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission, enlightened and awakened people's religious consciousness and worked for uplifting the downtrodden. Swami Vivekananda passed away on July 4, 1902, while meditating. His disciples believe that he attained Mahasamadhi, with the rupture of blood vessels in his brain reported as his possible cause of death. He was cremated on the bank of the Ganga river in Belur, opposite where Ramakrishna was cremated sixteen years before that. To observe the death anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and to remember his contributions to the nation, here are some powerful quotes that inspire the Indian youth till today.
