Healthy Sugar Alternatives: Indian celebrations are the epitome of joy for the spirit. Although the scent and rich flavour of sweets often make us happy during celebrations, taking excessive amounts of sugar can be harmful to our health. Consuming a lot of sugar has negative effects on the body and raises the risk of heart disease. Consuming excessive amounts of added sugar has been linked to increased blood pressure and chronic inflammation, two pathological pathways leading to heart disease, according to Harvard University. Consuming too much sugar, particularly in sugary drinks, also causes weight gain because liquid calories are less filling than calories from solid foods, so your body is tricked into shutting down its hunger control mechanism. Thus, these are a few healthy substitutes for sugar.

Healthy Sugar Substitutes

Jaggery

One of the better substitutes for ordinary sugar is jaggery. Because the nutrient-rich molasses is not removed by spinning during processing, this refined sugar is also known as non-centrifugal sugar. When ingested in moderation, jaggery doesn't cause blood sugar spikes and is more healthy than normal sugar.

Maple Syrup

Made from the sap of maple trees, maple syrup is a fantastic sugar substitute. It offers a respectable quantity of nutrients, but because it could contain more sugar than other options, it should only be used seldom. Maple syrup has a glycemic index of 54, meaning that it builds blood sugar levels more slowly than ordinary sugar.

Coconut Sugar

It comes from the coconut palm tree and is said to be more healthful than ordinary sugar. It is less glycemic than table sugar and is loaded with nutrients. Coconut sugar is a superior alternative since it is less processed than table sugar.

Honey

Pure sugar, low in fat and high in fibre and protein, is what honey is all about. It is a fantastic supplement to your diet for managing diabetes since it is full of essential minerals and antioxidants.
