People Who Should Not Drink Coffee
1. People With IBS
People with irritable bowel syndrome should not consume coffee or other caffeinated drinks. This is because caffeine can increase the chances of diarrhoea, one of the major signs of IBS.
2. People With Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that causes vision loss and blindness by damaging the nerve in the back of the eye known as the optic nerve. Caffeine is linked to an increase in the production of an eye fluid known as aqueous humour. An increase in this eye fluid can create pressure inside the eyes and increase the risk of glaucoma.
3. People With Heart Conditions
While the American Heart Association recommends drinking coffee in moderation is safe for the heart, coffee can cause sudden increases in blood pressure and heart rate which can raise the risk of certain heart diseases.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that pregnant women limit their caffeine consumption to less than 200 mg (about two, six-ounce cups) per day. This is because too much caffeine contributes to making you feel nauseous or light-headed.

5. Breastfeeding Mothers
New mothers or breastfeeding mothers should also avoid consuming too much coffee. According to WebMD, it is generally safe to drink caffeine while you are breastfeeding your baby. However, experts recommend limiting your caffeine intake to 300 milligrams of caffeine per day while nursing. Mothers who drink three cups of coffee per day have about one-third less iron in their breast milk than mothers who don't drink any coffee. Avoiding caffeine can improve the iron content of breast milk.
6. People With Sleep Disorders
One should avoid drinking coffee at least 8 hours before bedtime as caffeine present in coffee can keep you awake for long periods. If you are unable to avoid coffee, make sure to reduce your caffeine intake if you experience sleeping problems. The NIH states that heavier caffeine consumption, compared with light or no caffeine consumption, will be associated with higher insomnia symptoms and daytime sleepiness.
7. People With Anxiety
According to WebMD, people who drink less than two to three cups of coffee per day have a decreased risk of depression and anxiety. However the risk is lowest among people who drink two to three daily cups. For every cup more than three per day, the risk of both mental health disorders increases.
8. People With GERD
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) takes place when the stomach acid repeatedly flows back into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (oesophagus). Coffee is one of the triggers for GERD as it may aggravate the symptoms and worsen the condition.
