World Sight Day 2023: Every year, the global campaign of World Sight Day is observed on October 12 to shift the world’s attention towards the importance of eye care in the workplace and at home. This occasion is also observed to inform people about blindness and vision impairment. The theme of World Sight Day 2023 is "Love Your Eyes at Work."
When it comes to healthy eyes, several factors play a pivotal role. The foods we eat, activities we do and ways in which we take care of our eyes determine our eye health. Straining on the importance of nutrition for eye health, Dt. Jyoti Khanijoh, Dietetics, Nutrition And Dietetics, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj explained that ideally, a healthy well-balanced diet is essential for eye health along with that we must have antioxidants like beta carotene, vitamins C and E, Omega 3 and zinc. This helps in preventing the development of serious eye conditions and keeps the eyes healthy. Dr Khanijoh listed some incredibly healthy foods that one must incorporate into their diet for healthy eyesight.

Superfoods For Healthy Eyesight
1. Carrots
Carrots are touted as the best foods for one’s eye health. Carrots are known to be a great source of beta-carotene and lutein, the ideal antioxidants responsible for preventing the eyes from damage caused by free radicals. Beta-carotene is converted by the body into vitamin A, a nutrient whose deficiency can lead to loss of night vision or night blindness.

2. Citrus Fruits
Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and others are also incredible food sources for healthy eyesight. The presence of vitamin C in citrus fruits contributes to healthy blood vessels in the eyes. This key nutrient helps in combating the development of cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration.
3. Nuts & Seeds

Another superfood that you can include in your diet is nuts and seeds. They are a great source of vitamin E, an essential nutrient and potent antioxidant that reduces the risk of developing advanced age-related macular degeneration and cataracts. Foods rich in vitamin E such as nuts and seeds also help in reducing the risk of cataracts.
4. Salmon Fish
Fish, especially salmon fish, are another advantageous food for healthy eyes. Salmon fish is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids that are known as healthy fats and contribute to visual development and maintain eye health.

5. Egg Yolks
Egg yolks contain vitamin A, zinc, lutein zeaxanthin, and zinc, which helps in age-related degeneration of the eyes zinc helps in night improvement of night vision and improves retina health.
