The Indian automobile industry has been witnessing a shift towards increased safety standards in modern-age vehicles. This increased awareness about the safety of vehicles has been promoted due to various factors. The first being the number of accidents that happen in our country on a daily basis. Keeping this in mind, the carmakers have started producing more durable and strong vehicles that can withstand the impact of an accident. Apart from the manufacturers, the Indian government has also been actively taking steps to ensure that vehicles that are sold in the Indian market are strong with reliable built quality. One such step is the introduction of the Bharat NCAP crash tests programme in India, which will assess the safety ratings of new vehicles launched in the country.

There are several Indian as well as international manufacturers that offer some of the safest vehicles in the country such as Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Volkswagen, Skoda and many more. Maruti Suzuki is the largest car manufacturer in India, however, it is known to have produced several models that have scored low Global NCAP ratings in the past. These low Global NCAP ratings can be attributed to factors such as insufficient airbags, absence of advanced technologies such as Electronic Stability Control and poor body shell quality.
However, Maruti Suzuki has also been witnessing the upcoming trend of incorporating multiple safety features in vehicles to ensure that passengers are always protected. Therefore, responding to this, Maruti Suzuki has also made certain changes to meet the safety standards that are currently in place in the Indian automobile industry.
Maruti Suzuki recently launched the new-gen 2024 Swift hatchback in the Indian market. The new Swift offers significantly improved safety features compared to its predecessor. Now, all variants have been equipped with six airbags as standard, a notable upgrade from the previous model which only had two airbags even in the top level variants. Additionally, it includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Start Assist, enhancing overall safety for passengers. In addition to this, Maruti Suzuki has also introduced new variants of the Fronx SUV that offer six airbags for enhanced safety. Previously, six airbags were only available from the Zeta variant, which cost around Rs 10.56 lakh. With the introduction of this new variant, this safety feature became more affordable by Rs 1.6 lakh.
