Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has announced that the term ‘Bhumihar Brahmin’ will now be officially recorded in revenue documents, reversing previous discrepancies. The directive was issued during a Land Reform Public Welfare Dialogue held on Monday at the Shri Krishna Singh Auditorium of BRA Bihar University.

The decision comes after a complaint by a resident, Sukhdev Ojha, who highlighted that in newly issued land records and Jamabandi Panji, only ‘Bhumihar’ was mentioned, omitting ‘Brahmin’. The Deputy CM instructed revenue officials to rectify this at the departmental level, with recommendations to be sent through the Divisional Commissioner and District Magistrate to the General Administration Department for approval.

During the dialogue, the Deputy CM addressed multiple public grievances, including the suspension and transfer of a revenue employee for mishandling a Parimarjan (land record correction) case. He emphasised that the program aims to create a transparent, accountable, and citizen-friendly system in Bihar’s revenue and land reform operations, ensuring continuity regardless of his tenure.

Key directives include:

- Completion of mutation, Parimarjan Plus, and e-measurement work within the specified timeframe.

- Cancellation of December holidays for Circle Officers and revenue employees to ensure timely service delivery.

- Removal of touts and land mafias from Circle Offices, with police supervision.

- Display of information about rules, procedures, and services via banners and posters, with public service hours set from 9 am to 9 pm, six days a week.

- Strict action against individuals using forged documents to escalate disputes, including FIRs.

Deputy CM Sinha also stressed the importance of freeing government land from encroachment and providing transparent and timely services to the people. He announced that the department will honour individuals reporting cases of government land being registered in private names.

Officials present at the event included CK Anil, Principal Secretary of the Revenue and Land Reforms Department; Secretaries Jai Singh and Gopal Singh Meena; Divisional Commissioner Himanshu Kumar Rai; Collector Subrat Kumar Sen; SSP Sushil Kumar; and other senior revenue officials.
