The service tenure of drivers operating Dial-112 Emergency Response Vehicles in Bihar has been extended by one year, along with an increase in their remuneration. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced that drivers engaged under the Emergency Response Support System (Dial-112) will now receive a monthly remuneration of Rs 30,000, up from the earlier Rs 25,000. In addition, they will be entitled to an annual uniform allowance of Rs 4,000.
The one-year service extension is expected to incur an expenditure of Rs 161.12 crore. Choudhary said that a total of 4,426 driver posts are sanctioned for the operation of Dial-112 vehicles, including 3,418 posts of driver constables and 1,009 posts of driver head constables. The recruitment process for these positions is currently underway.

He explained that since recruitment and training will take considerable time, the government has decided to extend the services of retired army drivers presently deployed through the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO), Danapur, to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the emergency response system.
As per an earlier Home Department decision, the services of these drivers had been extended until March 2026, which is now nearing completion. The government has now approved an additional one-year extension for the financial year 2026-27.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the NDA government in the state, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is continuously working to strengthen the police system and reduce response times of the Dial-112 service. The latest decision, he added, is part of efforts to further improve the efficiency and reliability of emergency response operations.
