Bihar Election Results: Following the NDA's impressive performance in the Bihar Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on track for a historic victory, while Congress has once again suffered a significant defeat. Just nine months after the party was decimated in Delhi, India's oldest political party seems to be trailing behind yet again.
These election results mark one of the worst showings for Congress in recent history. The party not only lost ground to the BJP but also to regional allies like Janata Dal (United) and Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party.
According to data from the Election Commission as of 8 PM, Congress has won only the Kishanganj seat, defeating former AIMIM leader Kamrul Hoda. It is currently leading in five other seats: Valmiki Nagar, Chanpatia, Forbesganj, Araria, and Manihari.

Bihar Election Result 2025: What Led to Congress’s Crushing Defeat?
- The primary reason behind Congress’s crushing defeat is believed to be the party's disconnect with voters during the campaign. Rahul Gandhi, in particular, was largely absent for much of the election period. While he initially gained some momentum with the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ he was barely seen in the state afterward. Disappointed by his absence and the lack of any substantial development plans for Bihar, voters turned to the BJP.
- In contrast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Bihar almost nonstop, holding multiple rallies. Modi conducted around 14 rallies and made seven visits to the state, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah playing a pivotal role in strategizing the BJP’s campaign. Additionally, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath delivered more than a dozen speeches in Bihar, significantly strengthening the BJP's outreach.
- Meanwhile, key leaders of the Grand Alliance, Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, failed to share a stage together for much of the campaign. Congress was slow to address this lack of unity, and it wasn’t until October 29, just a week before the first phase of voting, that the two leaders appeared together publicly. This delay played a key role in the Grand Alliance’s disappointing performance and contributed to Congress’s worst electoral outcome in Bihar to date.

The NDA is on track to achieve a historic milestone in the 2025 Bihar elections, surpassing the 200-seat mark in the latest trends.
As of 9 PM, the Election Commission reports the following results:
BJP: 82 seats
JDU: 75 seats
LJP (RV): 17 seats
HAM: 5 seats
RLM: 3 seats
RJD: 22 seats
Congress: 6 seats
AIMIM: 5 seats
CPI (ML)(L): 2 seats
CPI(M): 1 seat
The NDA’s strong performance can be attributed to the solid showing by major parties like BJP and JD(U), with significant support from Chirag Paswan's LJP (RV) and Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
