A family of three was set on fire over a dispute involving just one inch of land in Amma village under the Bodh Gaya police station area in Bihar late on Sunday night. The victims, a husband, wife and their two-and-a-half-year-old child, suffered severe burn injuries after their house was allegedly torched by the husband’s brother. The incident occurred around 2:30 am.

The injured have been identified as Neelam Kumari, her husband Rana Kuleshwar, and their minor child. All three were rushed to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College Hospital in Gaya, where they are currently undergoing treatment in the burn ward. Their condition is reported to be serious.

According to Jagran.com, Neelam Kumari said the attack stemmed from a long-running property dispute with her brother-in-law and sister-in-law over a one-inch piece of land during the division of family property. She alleged that the family had been receiving death threats for some time. Neelam claimed that late at night, the accused poured petrol under the main door of their house and set it ablaze, leaving her young child severely burned.

Family Background

Neelam said she was married to Rana Kuleshwar in 2023. Rana is a government school teacher, as is his elder brother Mukesh, who has been accused of carrying out the arson. She stated that disputes over property division began just months after her marriage. Although the property had already been divided, the attack was allegedly carried out deliberately in the early hours of the morning.

She further alleged that her father-in-law Ramsevak, who has five brothers, is aware of who is responsible for the incident and has sided with the accused. Neelam claimed the attack was pre-planned and involved multiple family members.

Police Investigation Underway

Police launched an investigation soon after receiving information about the incident. Bodh Gaya Station House Officer Manoj Kumar said statements of the victims are being recorded and further action will be taken accordingly.
