A young man admitted to a de-addiction centre in the Gopalpur police station area has died under suspicious circumstances. The family of the deceased has alleged that he was beaten to death by the centre's staff. Following a complaint, the police have registered a murder case against the operators of the facility.
The Incident And Allegations
The victim has been identified as Aman Kumar, son of the late Ramvinay and a resident of Mokama. He had been admitted to the centre two months ago to treat a drug addiction.
On Tuesday, the family was informed of Aman’s death. Upon arriving at the centre, they discovered deep marks of assault on his body. The family stated that during a previous visit, Aman had complained that he was being beaten at the centre. At that time, they had appealed to the staff to stop the physical abuse. Given the visible injuries, the family alleged that Aman was beaten to death and began to protest vehemently at the scene.
Police Action And Investigation
Upon receiving information regarding the commotion, the Gopalpur police arrived at the scene to investigate. They took custody of the body and sent it to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The Gopalpur Station House Officer (SHO) confirmed that:
- Action is being taken based on the family's complaint.
- The exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.
- Some staff members have been brought to the police station for questioning.
Status Of The Accused
A murder case has been officially registered against the de-addiction centre. Reports indicate that the operators and all employees of the centre have absconded following the incident. Police are currently investigating the matter.
