The issue of approving funds for the implementation of the maintenance policy for Bihar's roads has now reached the Public Finance department. Meanwhile, a large-scale exercise is also set to begin for the maintenance of National Highways. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had instructed regional NHAI officials during the monsoon that not even a 1 km stretch of any NH should be left without maintenance.

Review Of National Highway Maintenance Work

The report prepared on this matter by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is now being reviewed. In Bihar, maintenance work is to be carried out on 162 km and 118 km of NH under two categories, respectively. The manner in which the work was carried out following the maintenance directive is being assessed. The maintenance of NH roads is part of the 2025-26 action plan for National Highways.

New Corridor-Based Maintenance System

For NH maintenance, a new system is to be implemented wherein work will be carried out by creating corridors of at least 50 km. There is also an instruction to expedite the approval of work for high-priority projects. A system is being established so that as soon as the Defect Liability Period (DLP) for a road ends, work on its maintenance plan can begin immediately.
