Development activities are underway in the Naxal-affected Imamganj Assembly constituency, marking a major shift in a region once known for violence and fear. Areas that earlier witnessed public courts run by Maoists are now seeing the construction of roads and major infrastructure projects.
Work on the Varanasi–Kolkata Greenfield Expressway is progressing round the clock through Imamganj and Dumaria. Officials say the project reflects improved security conditions and growing state presence in the region.
Expressway Through Once-Troubled Terrain
The expressway will begin from Anarwan Salaiya under the Chhakarbandha police station area of Imamganj subdivision and pass through Naudih Panchayat before entering Jharkhand. This stretch was earlier part of the Red Corridor, where villagers lived under constant threat from armed groups.
Several hilly and forested areas such as Baraha Chhakarbandha and Mahulnia were once strongholds of CPI (Maoist). These zones earlier saw attacks on police camps, destruction of bridges and frequent encounters.
Security Operations Changed The Ground Situation
Officials said the decline of Naxalite influence is the result of sustained security operations, firm political resolve and support from local residents. Police continue to recover arms and ammunition during searches, but organised Maoist activity has largely faded from the area.
Land once planted with landmines is now being cleared for development. Heavy machinery, including JCBs and Poclain excavators, is actively engaged at multiple locations.

Authorities believe the expressway will act as a catalyst for economic growth. Key expected outcomes include:
