A heavy rush of passengers traveling for the Chhath festival has overwhelmed trains arriving in Patna from major cities like Delhi and Mumbai. On Friday, trains such as the Sampoorna Kranti, Shramjeevi, LTT Rajendra Nagar, Ranchi Hatia, and Poorva were observed arriving at Patna Junction packed to capacity.

Sleeper and general coaches were so crowded that there was no room to even stand. Many passengers were seen forced to travel precariously, hanging from the gates or standing in the toilets.

Scramble For Connecting Trains

After arriving in Patna, passengers faced significant difficulty boarding local trains to continue their journey to other districts, including Saharsa and Katihar.

The situation was particularly chaotic for the Rajyarani and Katihar Intercity trains.

Rajyarani Express: A crowd of hundreds swarmed the Rajyarani Express upon its arrival at platform number four. Several people were seen shoving bags and even children inside through the emergency windows. The crowd was so dense that dozens of passengers were unable to board and missed their train.

Katihar Intercity & MEMU: A similar situation occurred on platform number 10 with the Patna-Gaya MEMU and Katihar Intercity trains. In these services, passengers were also seen traveling while hanging from the gates or standing in the toilets.

Crowd Control And Passenger Demands

Throughout the day, GRP, RPF, and railway employees struggled to manage the crowd, but the flow of passengers did not cease. This situation is expected to persist for the next few days due to the Chhath festival.

Passengers have demanded that the railway administration run additional trains to facilitate their journey home.
