In a major initiative to connect villages with cities and strengthen rural infrastructure, the Bihar government has approved a total of 703 new bridges under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Setu Yojana (Chief Minister Rural Bridge Scheme) for the current financial year 2025-26.
Costing Rs 3,688 crore, these bridges have been under construction since September 15. To establish seamless road connectivity in rural areas where transport is disrupted by monsoons, floods, or old, dilapidated bridges, new and robust bridges will be built.
Routes where roads remain incomplete due to missing bridges will also be connected by bridges. Additionally, bridges damaged by floods or other natural disasters are set to be rebuilt during the initiative.
Bridges have been constructed in several regions, with work to begin on the approach roads to ease transport for the residents. The highest number of bridges, 56, will be constructed in the East Champaran district.
Proposals received during the Janata Ke Darbar Mein Mukhyamantri (Chief Minister in the People's Court) programme and public announcements made by the Chief Minister have both been included in this scheme.
