Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday (September 22) inaugurated the Chief Minister's Mahila Rozgar Yojana, a major initiative aimed at making women financially empowered and self-reliant. Since his first term in office, the Chief Minister has consistently championed the cause of women’s development, and this new scheme represents a significant step toward economic inclusion for half the population.

Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 10,000 will be provided to one eligible woman per family. At the launch event, the Chief Minister initiated the direct transfer of the first installment to the bank accounts of 50 lakh women across the state, marking the beginning of a Rs 5,000 crore disbursement aimed at promoting self-employment among women.

The funds, transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), are intended to help women start or expand small-scale businesses and become self-sufficient. So far, over 1.05 crore members of the Jeevika Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have applied, with more than 1.4 lakh women seeking to join SHGs to become eligible for the benefit.

Mahila Rozgar Yojana: Eligibility Criteria

1. Only women associated with Jeevika SHGs are eligible.

2. The applicant must be part of a family unit consisting of husband, wife, and unmarried children.

3. Unmarried adult women without living parents are also eligible.

4. Age must be between 18 and 60 years.

5. Neither the applicant nor her spouse should be a government employee (regular or contractual) or an income tax payer.

Mahila Rozgar Yojana: Application Process

Rural Areas:

1. Women already affiliated with SHGs must apply through their village organization.

2. A special meeting will be held at the village level to collect applications from group members in a consolidated format.

3. Women who are not yet SHG members must first submit a form to join the SHG before applying for the scheme.

Urban Areas:

1. Urban women can apply online via the official Jeevika website:www.brlps.in.

2. Urban women already affiliated with former SHGs do not need to reapply online.

Statewide Celebrations and Program Schedule

A state-level event was organized on Monday at 11:00 AM, with a live broadcast across Bihar. The Rural Development Department Secretary, Lokesh Kumar Singh, instructed district-level officials to celebrate the occasion as a festival across various administrative levels:

1. District-Level: Programs chaired by the District Magistrate (DM) in all 38 district headquarters, with participation from public representatives, officials, and at least 1,000 SHG women.

2. Block-Level: Events chaired by Block Development Officers (BDOs) in all 534 blocks, involving public representatives, officials, and 500 SHG women.

3. Cluster-Level: Programs at 1,680 cluster-level Sanghs of Jeevika, each involving 200 women from livelihood groups.

4. Village Organisation Level: Live broadcasts at 70,000 village organizations, each hosting 100 SHG women.
