Justice Rudra Prakash Mishra of Patna High Court (HC) has created history in judicial proceedings by delivering judgments in 30 seconds on average per case on Monday, January 19. According to a report by Jagran.com, Justice Mishra was part of a single bench that was to review bail petitions of 510 cases related to the Excise and Prohibition Act.
Out of the total number of bail applications, 90 per cent got the nod from Patna HC, thereby giving relief to the lawyers and plaintiffs. Out of all the bail petitions, most of them were related to the prohibition law of Bihar, which had been under the carpet for a long time.
Out of the 510 cases, two were quashing petitions, 388 were newly filed excise cases, 29 were regular bail matters that had already been heard, 66 were tied-up anticipatory bail cases, and 25 cases involved requests for case diaries.
The bench gave its verdict on 508 cases, barring two criminal cases. Additionally, 463 cases were dismissed. Moreover, 10 bail applications were dismissed and disposed of while one case was withdrawn.

The court conducted brief hearings for each case and delivered its verdict in each case, keeping the nature of the case in mind. The working style of Justice Mishra has been received positively by the lawyer fraternity, who said that such an illustration of the expedited justice delivery system gives a fresh approach in the world of litigation.
They believe it not only helps reduce the backlog of pending cases but also reinforces public confidence in the judicial system.
Who Is Justice RP Mishra?
Justice Rudra Prakash Mishra is a sitting judge of the Patna High Court. He was elevated to the bench from the Bihar Superior Judicial Service on November 4, 2023. Mishra began his career in the judiciary as an Additional District & Sessions Judge on April 30, 2010.
He later served as a Principal Judge for the family Court in 2011, and as a District & Sessions Judge (2015). He has also held senior administrative positions, including Registrar General of the Patna High Court and Director of the Bihar Judicial Academy.
