The Road Construction Department has approved a major infrastructure upgrade on the Patna-Masaurhi route, clearing the development of the Patna-Masaurhi State Highway-1 (SH-1) into a four-lane road. The project will cover a 6.415 km stretch between Sampatchak Bazar and Parsa Bazar (old NH-83) via Chipra and Badlachak.

Estimated to cost over Rs 72 crore, the construction is proposed for 2025-26 and is expected to be completed within 15 months. Officials said the four-lane expansion will significantly boost commercial activity and improve connectivity for residents of Sampatchak, Chipra, Badlachak, and Parsa Bazar, offering faster and safer access to Patna.

The existing narrow two-lane road faces frequent traffic jams, slow movement, and accidents due to heavy daily traffic and dense habitation on both sides. The absence of proper drainage also leads to severe waterlogging during monsoons.

Under the new project, the road will be widened and strengthened with a high-quality base layer, durable bituminous surface, improved drainage on both sides, and modern safety features. Designed to accommodate future traffic growth, the upgraded highway will ensure smoother transit for years to come.

The RCD Executive Engineer, Patna City Road Division, has issued a tender for the project, and construction is expected to begin soon. Once completed, the widened route will ease travel from Patna to Gaya, Jehanabad, and Masaurhi, providing major relief to commuters across the region.
