Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated NIT today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated the first phase of the newly built National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna campus in Sikandarpur, Bihta, today, Saturday, at 10 a.m. The inauguration will take place via video conferencing.

This information was shared by Dr Pramod Kumar Jain, Director of NIT Patna, during a press conference on Friday.

Project Overview And Construction

The state government of Bihar allocated 125 acres of land for the new campus. The construction of the first phase was initiated in August 2022 by the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) at an estimated cost of approximately Rs 500 crore. This phase, which is now 95 per cent complete, has been developed on 60 acres and includes academic and residential facilities for 2,500 students. The entire campus is ultimately designed to accommodate a total of 6,500 students.

Initially, only the second and third-year students of the Computer Science and Electronics departments will be shifted to the new Bihta campus. First-year students will continue to study at the original Patna campus. The existing campus will also remain operational under NIT, where the Civil and Architecture departments will continue to function.

The new campus has been developed as a fully eco-friendly model, with solar panels installed on all buildings to promote renewable energy. The entire campus is equipped with modern facilities, including:

- Academic Departments

- Administrative Block

- Data Centre and Library

- Innovation and Incubation Centre

- Separate Hostels for Students
