In a significant move aimed at ensuring passenger convenience, transparency, and secure ticket booking, Indian Railways has introduced a major change to the Tatkal ticket booking system. Starting December 18, an OTP-based Tatkal ticket booking arrangement is being implemented at Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters for 100 selected trains. This system will be effective at all PRS counters falling under the Samastipur Division.
How The New System Works
Under the new arrangement, a One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to the passenger's registered mobile number at the time of Tatkal ticket booking. The ticket will be booked only after the successful verification of this OTP. This measure is designed to put an effective check on fake bookings, the activities of touts, and illegal ticket sales.
Applicable Trains
The OTP-based Tatkal ticket system is being implemented on 100 selected trains, including the Pawan Express, Avadh Express, Barauni-Gwalior Express, Rajya Rani Express, and Hate Bazare Express.
According to railway officials, this initiative will make it easier for genuine passengers to secure Tatkal tickets, making the process more secure, transparent, and reliable than before. The digital verification system ensures that the benefit of Tatkal tickets reaches only the rightful passengers.
Official Statement
DRM Jyoti Prakash Mishra said, "Passenger convenience and the protection of their interests are the top priority of Indian Railways. The implementation of the OTP-based Tatkal ticket booking system at PRS counters will increase transparency and directly benefit genuine passengers. We appeal to passengers to provide a correct and active mobile number at the time of Tatkal booking to ensure they face no inconvenience during OTP verification."
