Bank Holidays: In a major update for the customers, banks across states will remain closed on January 24, as it is the fourth Saturday of January 2026. As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Apart from this, the bank operations will also remain disrupted on Sunday due to the weekly day off and on Monday due to the Republic Day. While the regional branches of banks will not operate on these days, the customers can still use the online services. The customers are advised to follow the guidelines and plan their days accordingly to avoid any inconveniences.
Will Banks Remain Closed On January 24?
The banks will remain closed on January 24, as banks in India are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. As per the RBI regulations, banks remain open on the first and third Saturdays of the month. Apart from Saturday, the banks will not operate for two more consecutive days due to Sunday and Republic Day.
The customers will not have access to banking services at their branches till January 26 due to the bank holidays. However, they can still utilise the online services of banks in case of urgency. The customers are advised to avoid visiting their nearest branches for the next three days, as the banks will not operate till January 26.
Apart from this, banking services are also likely to be disrupted on January 27, as the Bank Employees Union has called a nationwide strike. The union has demanded two days off per week for the staff, citing other sectors, ensuring a total of 8 days off per month. Around 800,000 employees working in state-owned, private, foreign, regional, rural, and cooperative banks are likely to go on a nationwide strike. The strike comes at a sensitive time, coinciding with a series of holidays.
