IND vs ENG: Former England captain Michael Vaughan said India speedster Jasprit Bumrah will pose a big threat and challenge to Three Lions top batter Joe Root in the upcoming five-match Test series in 2025.
Root, who has been in exceptional form in the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, slammed 1398 runs from 16 matches so far with five hundred and six half-centuries.
Vaughan feels that Bumrah's skill will torment Root greatly when India comes on a five-match Test series Tour of England in June 2025.
In a rare slump in his batting performance, Root just scored 13 and 12 in the recently concluded third Test against Sri Lanka, as a result England suffered an eight-wicket defeat.
Vaughan emphasised Root's important role in the England batting lineup, portraying him as the "glue" that keeps the team together.
“This week really hit home to me how important Joe Root is to this batting lineup. His batting is the key. All these flamboyant players around him get flamboyant fifties. But without the glue at No 4 getting the huge amount of runs he does, they are knackered,” wrote Vaughan in his column for The Telegraph.
The former England captain predicted that the right-handed batter's form may be disrupted by the India speedster, who enjoys a history of dismissing and battling with top-order batters.

“He can’t do it every week, and he didn’t do it this week. Jasprit Bumrah enjoys bowling at Root, and could severely limit his output next summer. The same goes for Pat Cummins in Australia, where Root has never scored a hundred. England have to have ways of succeeding when Root doesn’t make big runs. On the basis of this game, they don’t,” he added.
England's prolific batter enjoys an impressive Test record against India, slamming 2846 runs, including 10 centuries and 11 fifties. Despite this, Bumrah will pose a tough challenge for Root to continue as India's star speedster has dismissed England batter nine times.
