IND vs SA: Star India battrs Rohit Sharma an Virat Kohli have maintained their sublime form by performing consistently at the highest level. Both these players are in the last stage of their careers as they have already retired from the longest format and T20Is. They are motivated to play in ODIs till the 2027 ODI World Cup. Irrespective of all that, speculations are rife that the team management won't keep these batters in their long-term plans, as the coaches too haven't revealed much about their future.

Both Gautam Gambhir and India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak are on the same page about this issue. But Rohit and Kohli, with the help of their performances against teams like Australia and India, have shown that they can perform consistently against one of the best teams.

Rohit was the highest run-scorer in the three-match ODI series against Australia, whereas Kohli was the highest run-scorer against South Africa.

Gambhir, who has often taken a stand against praising a single individual for the team's success, left ex-India cricketer Robin Uthappa stunned, who opined that the head coach should have praised Rohit and Kohli.

“What I found surprising is the post-match of that series, in the press conference, I didn’t see Gautam giving credit to either Rohit or Virat," Uthappa was quoted on his YouTube channel.

“Here are a couple of guys who’ve batted out of their skins and shown us how good they are and how good they can be. They dispelled all kinds of doubts and shut down any naysayers about what they can and will do for India when they are in the right form. That felt strange," he said.
