IND vs PAK, T20 World Cup 2026 Controversy: Pakistan are set to face a major setback in international cricket after their recent announcement to boycott the match against India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which kicks off on February 7. The Pakistan government, on Sunday, confirmed that their team will participate in the marquee tournament, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka, but mentioned that they won't feature in the much-awaited clash against India on February 15.
Pakistan are scheduled to play all their games in Colombo, but their recent stance to avoid the India match is considered a response after the ICC replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the tournament after denying the Bangladesh Cricket Board's request to shift their matches to Sri Lanka. “The Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan grants approval to the Pakistan Cricket Team to participate in the ICC World T20 2026; however, the Pakistan Cricket Team shall not take the field in the match scheduled on 15 February 2026 against India," Govt Of Pakistan tweeted on Sunday.

While the ICC was quick to respond to the announcement made by the Pakistani government, several reports claim that their decision to boycott the India game could put the Pakistan Cricket Board in a heavily tough situation. As per a report in RevSportz, the ICC will punish Pakistan for their act, and they potentially face the risk of being barred from international cricket.

The ICC board meeting is expected to take place between Tuesday and Thursday. "Sources suggest that Pakistan is being viewed as disregarding the larger interests of world cricket, with one source even describing the move as potentially suicidal," the report read.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the PCB hasn't yet officially informed the ICC about their decision to boycott the Group A match against India in Colombo. As a response to that, the ICC could come up with a big decision and ban Pakistan from participating in the upcoming shortest-format mega event.
If Pakistan are excluded from the T20 World Cup 2026, then they are likely to be replaced by Uganda. And even if the ICC allows Pakistan to participate in the T20 World Cup 2026, they are likely to face sanctions following their stance to boycott the India game.
As per sources, the ICC may prevent its member countries from travelling to Pakistan for the bilateral series. The global cricket body can also stop overseas players (barring free agents) from participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
