India star batter Virat Kohli is riding on the purple patch in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 as he amassed an unbeaten 103-run knock to hand his side an emphatic seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in Pune on Thursday.
Kohli's knock enabled him to complete 26,000 international runs, another landmark achievement of his highly illustrious career. The right-handed batter was 67 runs away from the magical mark. He became the fastest to reach 26,000 runs, breaking legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record.
Kohli took 567 innings to complete the feat, 33 innings less than his idol Tendulkar.
In 511 matches and 567 innings, Kohli has scored 26,026 runs at an average of 53.99 and a strike rate of over 79. He has scored 78 centuries and 134 fifties, with the best score of 254*.
He is one century away from levelling Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI centuries. Also, with his 78th international ton, he is 23 centuries short of overtaking Tendulkar's record of 100 international centuries.
Kohli also overtook Sri Lankan great Mahela Jayawardene (25,957 runs) to become the fourth-highest run-scorer of all time in international cricket.
In 30 ICC Cricket World Cup matches, Kohli has scored 1,289 runs at an average of 53.70, with three centuries and eight fifties in 30 innings, with the best score of 107.

He is the fourth-highest run-scorer in WC history, with Tendulkar (2,278 runs) at the top.
In this World Cup, Kohli is the second-highest run-scorer. In four innings, he has scored 259 runs at an average of 129.50, with one century and two fifties, with a best score of 103*.
After the match, Kohli admitted that he wanted to reach the three-figure mark desperately to make a 'big contribution'.
"Sorry for stealing it (PoTM award) from Jaddu, I wanted to make a big contribution. I have had a few fifties in World Cups, haven't really converted them. I just wanted to finish the game off this time around and hang on till the end which is what I have done over the years for the team," he said in the post-match reaction.
India maintained their unbeaten record in the tournament with the fourth successive win to solidify their second spot in the standings.
