Residents of School Block in Mandawali, East Delhi, are being forced to drink dirty water supplied by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Due to leaks in the pipelines at various places, contaminated water is reaching people's homes, which is forcing them to buy drinking water from the market. Local people allege that despite repeated complaints, the Delhi Jal Board office is not taking any action.
According to local residents, this problem has been going on for the past few months in many lanes of School Block. The water has a strong foul smell and is so black that forget drinking, it can't even be used for daily household chores. By consuming this water, people are suffering from stomach aches and other illnesses, and to stay healthy, they have to spend money to buy water from the market.
People say they are tired of making rounds to the Delhi Jal Board office and have also filed online complaints, but the problem has not been solved. A few days ago, the Jal Board dug a pit to check for a leak, but they neither repaired the pipeline nor filled the pit back up. In connection with this, when attempts were made to contact the Jal Board's Junior Engineer (JE), Sabodh Kumar, by phone, he could not be reached.

A local resident, Sanjeev, said, "The condition of the roads and water here is pathetic. The water quality is so bad you can't even wash your hands with it. We have to buy water even for washing clothes. There is no one to listen to our pleas."
Another resident, Hoshiar Singh, said, "We have been facing this water problem for the last three months. Sewage water is coming into our homes. How can anyone use this water? I have complained everywhere possible, but there has been no hearing."
