Delhi Demolition Latest Update: In a fresh development, Delhi Police have identified 30 people in connection with the stone-pelting incident that took place on Tuesday night near the Syed Faiz Ilahi Mosque in the Turkman Gate area.

Police will issue a summon to Samajwadi Party MP Mohibbullah Nadvi to join the investigation, as he was present at the spot before the violence broke out. Despite repeated requests from senior Delhi Police officials, he remained in the area.

The identifications were made using CCTV footage and videos circulating on social media, following which police teams have launched raids to arrest the suspects. Earlier, at least five people were arrested after five police personnel were injured during the demolition drive.

What & Where

The dispute concerns around 39,000 sq ft of land near Ramlila Maidan in the Turkman Gate area of Delhi, adjoining the century-old Syed Faiz Elahi Mosque, where several alleged illegal structures had come up.

November 2025 - High Court Intervention

The Delhi High Court ordered the removal of encroachments from the disputed land.
It directed the MCD and PWD to clear all illegal constructions, including roads, footpaths, parking spaces, banquet halls and diagnostic centres.

December - MCD Declares Structures Illegal

The MCD informed the court that only 0.195 acres had been legally leased to the mosque in 1940.

All other surrounding constructions were declared unauthorised, and demolition was planned.

Mosque Committee’s Challenge

The mosque’s management committee challenged the order, stating the land was Waqf property and fell under the Waqf Tribunal’s jurisdiction.

They admitted the banquet hall and clinic had already shut but objected to action near the graveyard area.

January 6 - High Court Hearing

The High Court sought replies from the MCD, Delhi Waqf Board and Ministry of Urban Development within four weeks.

The next hearing was fixed for April 22.

January 7 - Day Of Violence 

3:30 pm:
The High Court issued notice on the mosque committee’s petition challenging the demolition.

10:30 pm:
32 bulldozers reached the site. Police anticipated unrest and increased deployment.

11:00 pm:
Security was heavily reinforced with 9 DCPs, 25 ACPs, 800 local police personnel and 10 companies of paramilitary forces.

11:30 pm:
Local residents began gathering around the mosque.

January 8 - Violence & Demolition

1. Around 150 people were asked by authorities to disperse from the site, but 25–30 individuals suddenly began pelting stones at police.

2. Police responded by using tear gas to bring the situation under control, after which the demolition drive began.

3. During the operation, a dispensary and a banquet hall were demolished, and five police personnel were injured in the violence.

4. Delhi Police registered an FIR based on the statements of the injured officers and MCD staff; five accused were detained, identified through body-camera footage and video evidence.

5. Police have since identified around 30 people linked to the stone-pelting incident and will issue a summons to Samajwadi Party MP Mohibbullah Nadvi to join the investigation.
