The East Vinod Nagar metro station on the Pink Line has achieved national recognition for its exemplary sustainable practices, bagging the 'Best Performing Unit' award in the metro stations category at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025. The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu during a ceremony at Vigyan Bhavan on National Energy Conservation Day.

Selected From Over 90 Competitors

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency, under the Ministry of Power, selected the station after a detailed evaluation of applications from across the country.

Performance: According to DMRC CPRO Anuj Dayal, East Vinod Nagar secured the top honour by outperforming more than 90 other stations.

Track Record: Over the last three financial years, the station has recorded a continuous reduction in total electricity consumption and consistently improved its energy performance index.

Solar Power: A Step Towards Self-Sufficiency A key factor in the station's success is its aggressive adoption of renewable energy.

Capacity: A 150-kilowatt solar power system has been installed on the rooftop.

Impact: With the station's total consumption standing at approximately 300 kilowatts, the solar system meets about 49 per cent of the total energy requirement. This has significantly reduced dependence on conventional electricity and minimized environmental impact.

Lighting System Overhaul

To further conserve energy, the station management undertook a major retrofitting project for its lighting systems.

Replacement: 405 conventional tube light fittings were replaced with low-power LED systems.

Efficiency: High-wattage lights (80 and 100 watts) were swapped for efficient 28 and 14-watt LED lights. These new lights provide better illumination, have a longer operational life, and have drastically reduced maintenance costs.

Smart Monitoring And Green Certification

The station employs a rigorous monitoring system where the energy consumption of all major electrical equipment is tracked regularly to identify areas for improvement.

Green Building Status: The station has also received a Platinum category certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), reflecting its environmentally friendly construction and resource management.
