The Delhi government is planning to build a temporary office for the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) headquarters at the Indraprastha (IP) bus depot so that employees can be shifted there until the new office is built. Last December, the DTC and the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build a new DTC headquarters at the IP bus depot. Work on this is expected to begin in the next few months.
The existing headquarters building will be demolished to make way for the new building. The temporary office will be built at the IP bus depot. Its estimated cost will be Rs 4.65 crore. The DSIIDC has issued a tender for this project and invited bids.
The temporary office will be ready within three months of the construction work starting. It is noteworthy that the structure of the existing DTC building is not suitable for the operational needs of the transport utility. After its demolition, a new 12-storey building will be constructed at an estimated cost of approximately Rs 207 crore.
Work on the new headquarters is likely to begin around June. The new headquarters will be built on 2.6 hectares of land. Of this, 6,158 square metres will be used for construction, while 12,234.54 square metres will continue to be used for ongoing transport operations at the depot.
The plan also includes a landscaped green area of 9,681.71 square metres, which is approximately 20 per cent of the total planned land. The project will be completed in two and a half years and will include parking facilities for approximately 200 buses and basement parking for more than 200 cars.

As part of the MoU signed last month, 50 per cent of the commercial usage rights will remain with the DTC for 30 years. The building is proposed to include advanced architectural elements.
