Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 Metro Name Change: The Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 Metro Station in East Delhi has been renamed Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar, as announced by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). This change comes in response to the long-standing demand of local residents and the wider community, who had called for the renaming to reflect the area’s cultural and religious heritage.
The necessary procedures for the renaming have now been completed, and the updated name is expected to make the station more easily identifiable for passengers, while also strengthening the religious identity of the area.
Why was Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 Metro Station renamed?
MLA Ravikant Ujjainwal, speaking to Jagran.com, explained that due to similar names of the Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 and Phase 1 metro stations had caused confusion among commuters, often leading to people alighting at the wrong station. Additionally, the station is located very close to the prominent Shree Ram Mandir (also known as Shri Uttam Mandir). Incorporating the temple's name makes the station easier to identify for visitors.
In light of this, there had been persistent calls from various groups, including the Shri Sanatan Dharma Sabha, the Mayur Vihar Management Committee, Shri Ram Mandir Pocket 1, and local residents, to rename the station after the temple.
The MLA subsequently submitted the proposal to the DMRC and the Chief Minister. Work to replace the station’s signboards began on Saturday.

The MLA expressed that after a year in power, the renaming of the station in honour of Lord Shri Ram's temple felt like a personal blessing and a meaningful gesture for the local community.
