While the Delhi Police are typically associated with strict law and order enforcement, the West District Police have moved beyond this image to launch a sensitive and inspiring initiative. It has been started under the name 'Book Bank' and is led by DCP West Delhi, D Sharad Bhaskar. This unique community policing initiative has emerged as a ray of hope for the education of children whose dreams are often unfulfilled due to a lack of books amid financial hardship.
The objective of this initiative is to give a new direction to the future of children in need by providing them with study materials.
What Is The Book Bank And How Will It Work?
Under the Book Bank scheme, the Delhi Police will contact students and families whose children have been promoted to the next class or have recently appeared for the CBSE board examinations. These families will be requested to donate their old but still useful books, such as NCERT textbooks, study guides and books for competitive examinations, so that they can support the dreams of another child.
As part of this campaign, an appeal is being made to police personnel, their families, and the general public to voluntarily donate books. The collected books will be distributed to children living in the shanty towns and slum areas of the West District, who often lack access to bookshops or resources. The Book Bank will include useful material ranging from school textbooks to preparation guides for competitive examinations.

According to the DCP, this initiative will not only help young and ambitious students but also strengthen human values in society. He has instructed all supervisory officers to involve their subordinate police personnel and the general public in this noble campaign. Such initiatives not only promote education but also bridge the trust gap between the police and the public.

How To Participate: Digital Registration Via QR Code
The campaign is also being promoted via social media to ensure maximum participation. The police are providing a QR code that people can scan to fill in the required information. It includes options for both donors and recipients. People can select their choice, enter their full details, and submit the form. Following this, a police representative will contact them directly.
