Delhi Police Nabs 5 Notorious Train Thieves At IGI Airport Following Tip From Maharashtra; Gang Targeted AC Coaches

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested five wanted criminals at IGI Airport. This gang is notorious for stealing passengers' belongings on trains. Acting on a tip-off from Maharashtra Police, the police laid a trap at the airport, arrested the accused, and recovered stolen jewellery from their possession. During questioning, the accused have admitted their involvement.

In a coordinated operation based on intelligence from the Maharashtra Police, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested five members of a notorious gang at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The gang is accused of targeting passengers on long-distance trains and stealing gold, cash, and valuables.

The Case And The Tip-off

The operation stems from a theft reported on November 26, 2025 on a train in Pune. An FIR was registered at the Miraj Railway Police Station in Maharashtra regarding the theft of jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh.

Intelligence Sharing: On November 30, 2025, the Crime Branch received a critical tip-off from the Miraj Railway Police Station. They were informed that the five wanted suspects involved in the case were travelling on a flight from Goa to Delhi and were scheduled to land at IGI Airport.

The Trap: Acting swiftly, a Crime Branch team set up a trap at the airport. Upon the flight's arrival, the team maintained close surveillance and successfully apprehended the suspects.

Arrests And Recovery

The five accused have been identified as Hawa Singh, Amit Kumar, Kuldeep, Ajay, and Monu.

Confession: During interrogation, Hawa Singh, Amit Kumar, Ajay, and Monu confessed to their involvement in the Pune theft case reported at Miraj.

Recovery: During the search, police recovered 177 grams of silver jewellery from their possession, which the accused admitted was stolen from other passengers.

Legal Action: The accused were arrested under Section 35 of the BNSS.

Modus Operandi

According to officials, this is a seasoned gang with a specific method of operation:

Targets: They primarily target passengers in AC coaches on long-distance trains, specifically looking for individuals who appear affluent or are wearing gold jewellery.

Mobility: The gang frequently travels from Delhi to various other cities via bus or train with the sole intention of committing thefts.
