The Delhi government is set to install electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at three major Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs) as part of its expansion plan, following the recent launch of inter-state electric bus services.
The Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) has issued a tender for the supply and installation of chargers and the necessary infrastructure at the Kashmiri Gate, Sarai Kale Khan, and Anand Vihar ISBTs.
Project Details And Cost
Officials stated that the estimated cost for the new EV charging infrastructure across the three ISBTs is Rs 16.99 crore. The project includes:
- The construction of civil infrastructure for the EV charging stations.
- The supply and installation of substations and chargers.
An official specified that the installation will include a 1,600 kVA, 11 kV per 433 Volt compact substation along with 60 kW and 240 kW chargers, which will be capable of charging hundreds of buses.
Tenders have been issued inviting contractors approved by government agencies. Following a successful bidding process, the civil and electrical work is expected to begin in the next few months.

Broader Electrification Goals
This initiative is part of the Delhi government's broader plan to completely convert its public transport fleet to electric vehicles within the next year and a half.
Officials emphasised that expanding the charging infrastructure is crucial, as the Delhi government plans to add 8,000 e-buses by 2026.
- Currently, the city has 3,400 e-buses.
- There are plans to increase this number to 6,000 in the coming months.
