To further strengthen security arrangements in view of Republic Day, the Delhi Police will use Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based smart glasses for the first time. These glasses will be equipped with a facial recognition system, which will be directly linked to the police's criminal database and will be able to identify suspects or wanted criminals on the spot.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the New Delhi district, these smart glasses will scan a person's face in crowded areas and match it with police records within a few seconds. As soon as a match is found, the police personnel wearing the glasses will receive an immediate alert, allowing action to be taken without any delay.

This technology will speed up the on-the-spot identification process and reduce reliance on manual checks. This will increase both the vigilance and response capability of personnel on duty. This initiative is part of the Delhi Police's comprehensive technology-based security strategy, which includes CCTV camera monitoring, drone surveillance, facial recognition software, and AI-based analytics.

Police personnel deployed on the parade route, at entry points, public viewing areas, and transit hubs will use these smart glasses. According to the police, this step will ensure security and smooth arrangements during the Republic Day celebrations.

How do the smart glasses work?

The Delhi Police has developed these smart glasses in collaboration with the indigenous company AjnaLens. These smart glasses will connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth. They will have a camera equipped with a facial recognition system, which will keep an eye on all suspects in the vicinity.

As soon as a suspect matches the criminal database, an alert will be triggered, highlighting their face in red through the glasses. The special feature of these smart glasses is that they can match a criminal's 20-year-old photograph with the help of AI.

It is often seen that wanted criminals change their appearance to avoid arrest. With the help of these smart glasses, it will be easier to identify them, and the police's work will also be made easier.
