On the occasion of the country's 77th Republic Day, the 21-gun salute at Kartavya Path will once again symbolise the discipline, precision and indigenous strength of the Indian Army. Major Pawan Singh Shekhawat of the Ceremonial Battery has described it as a proud moment for the unit. Major Shekhawat stated that the cannons have already been moved to Kartavya Path for the Republic Day ceremony and rehearsals for this have been completed in several phases. He said that since 2023, under the indigenous weapons campaign, indigenous cannons have been adopted in place of foreign ones.
Features Of The Indigenous 105 mm Light Field Gun
The 105 mm Light Field Gun being used for the 21-gun salute this time is completely indigenous. It has a firing range of up to 17.2 kilometres and can fire 6 rounds per minute. Notably, the cannon is also heli-portable, meaning it can be deployed anywhere by helicopter if needed.
Historic Military Coordination Completed In 52 Seconds
Major Shekhawat explained that the 21-gun salute is a time-critical process. This process is perfectly synchronised with the President unfurling the national flag, the salute from the President's Bodyguard, and the national anthem. The entire process must be successfully completed within just 52 seconds, with no room for even a moment's delay.
