CG Election Result 2023 Highlights: BJP Sweeps Chhattisgarh With Clear Mandate; Congress Loses Ground

As per the Election Commission of India, Bharatiya Janta Party has managed to win 51 seats, while Congress has secured 33 seats as of now. Counting is underway for five more seats, with BJP leading on 3 seats and Congress on Two.

In the Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections result, Janak Dhruv of Congress defeated Bhartiya Janta Party's Gowardhan Singh Manjhi from Bindranawagarh seat by a close margin of 816 votes.

As per the Election Commission of India, BJP has won 24 seats as of now and Congress has become victorious on 16 seats. Counting is underway with BJP leading on 30, and Congress on 20 seats respectively.

Out of the total 90 seats in the Chhattisgarh state assembly, Bhartiya Janta Party has won 18 seats while Congress has managed to win 13 seats till now as per the Election Commission of India. For the remaining 59 seats, the BJP is leading on 35 and the Congress on 22 seats. 

Bhartiya Janta Party's Amar Agarwal won against Shailesh Pandey of Congress from Bilaspur seat by a margin of 28959 votes. 

Chhattisgarh Deputy CM TS Singh Deo defeated by BJP candidate and businessman Rajesh Agarwal from Ambikapur.

Union Minister Smriti Irani on Sunday said that the results of assembly polls in three states- Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are a symbol of "Modi magic". Irani said that the BJP was confident since the beginning in winning the polls.

BJP workers burst firecrackers and celebrate at the party office in Uttar Pradesh as the party leads in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan elections.

In a master stroke in Chhattisgarh, the BJP fielded five former ministers who lost the 2018 Chhattisgarh assembly elections in their respective seats as vote counting was underway on Sunday, according to the Election Commission data.

Bhaiyyalal Rajwade (Baikunthpur), Amar Agrawal (Bilaspur), Rajesh Munat (Raipur City West), Kedar Kashyap (Narayanpur) and Dayaldas Baghel (Nawagarh) were ministers in the previous BJP government in the state. They lost the 2018 assembly polls but were leading this time against their nearest Congress rivals, as per the latest trends.

However, former ministers Prem Prakash Pandey (Bhilai Nagar) and Mahesh Gagda (Bijapur), who were also re-nominated this time by the BJP despite losing the previous election, were trailing.

As the BJP is leading on 53 seats in Chhattisgarh, the BJP President Arun Sao says, "The misgovernance of Congress is about to end. The lotus will bloom. Chhattisgarh will move forward on the path of development. Chhattisgarh will get the guarantee of PM Modi. The trends will be converted into reality and we will get more seats than the trends...Those who have looted the state will not be spared. The (CM) will be decided by the MLAs and the central leadership of the party. Very soon we will form the government in the state." At present, he is leading from Lormi with 37863 votes.

The allegations against Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel over the Mahadev betting app have led to the trailing of Congress in Chhattisgarh Assembly polls. The BJP, all through its high-voltage campaign in the state targeted the Congress government led by CM Baghel on alleged scams, corruption and the 'hawala money funding' related to the Mahadev app. During aggressive campaigning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raked up the issue of the Mahadev app 'scam' and asked the Congress to reveal how much money the Chief Minister got and how much of it was transferred to the party's high command.

The BJP has crossed the halfway mark of 46 in the 90-member assembly of Chhattisgarh as star campaigner PM Modi targeted Baghel over corruption and job scams. Singh was leading over Congress' Girish Dewangan in the Rajnandgaon seat by 13,279 votes after the fourth round of counting of votes for the state assembly elections, as per the Election Commission. The people have rejected CM Baghel, Singh said.

Hailing the role of top BJP leaders in the Chhattisgarh elections campaign, Singh said, “The people of the state have shown faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's works and guarantees. The PM, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda gave sufficient time (for electioneering) in Chhattisgarh.” The people have shown faith in Modi's guarantees and not Baghel's promises, which is evident in the trends, the BJP leader said.

Incumbent Deputy Chief Minister and Congress candidate TS Singhdeo trailing in Ambikapur by a margin of 1623 votes after the fourth round of counting, garnering a total of 18240 votes so far.

In Patan, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of Congress was leading over BJP's Vijay Baghel by 164 votes after four rounds of counting of votes. Chhattisgarh Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu was trailing in Durg Rural seat by 1,365 votes against BJP's Lalit Chandrakar. State Congress chief Deepak Baij was behind by 518 votes against BJP's Vinayak Goyal in the Chitrakot seat.

Chhattisgarh assembly speaker Charan Das Mahant was also trailing in Sakti seat by 897 votes against BJP's Khilawan Sahu.

State minister Guru Rudra Kumar, an influential SC community leader, was trailing in the Nawagarh seat by 660 votes against BJP's former minister Dayaldas Baghel.

In Kawardha's seat, minister Mohammad Akbar was trailing by 1,534 votes against BJP's Vijay Sharma.

Chhattisgarh minister Shivkumar Dahariya was trailing in the Arang seat by 1,700 votes against BJP's Guru Khushwant Saheb.

In the Korba seat, minister Jai Singh Agrawal was trailing by 837 votes against BJP's Lakhanlal Dewangan.

These trends are after the first round of counting of votes. There will be 18 rounds.

The BJP has taken the steering wheel and Congress' applecart has fallen in Chhattisgarh, forging ahead in 54 of the 90 assembly seats, while the grand old party led in 34 seats, as per the latest information available with the Election Commission.

He said, "According to the initial trends, BJP is leading in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and Congress is forming the government in Telangana. There is a close contest in Chhattisgarh. Therefore, I feel it is too early to say who is winning. The picture will be clear by 1 pm...We hope that Congress will win the elections...''

BJP Chhattisgarh in-charge Nitin Nabin said that BJP will win the state election results in Chhattisgarh. "BJP will form the government with a clear majority in Chhattisgarh. The Congress govt did the work of looting the people of the state, and the people have replied to this today.

"BJP will form government in Chhattisgarh...The people of Chhattisgarh have realised that the Congress government is corrupt and they have cheated the people. BJP will form the government with a clear majority," he said.

As counting of votes commenced in Chhattisgarh on Sunday Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel extended wishes to all the candidates who are seeking a mandate to the 90-member assembly. The voting in Chhattisgarh is scheduled to begin soon and the BJP candidate from Kondagaon ahead of the counting of votes, said, "BJP is confident that we will win both seats of Kondagaon...Everyone is eagerly waiting for the results. We are very confident that the public and their blessings are with us...The public is tired of the current Congress government..."

The counting of votes will start shortly in Chhattisgarh and preparations are currently underway at the counting centre in Raipur where the counting of votes for the Assembly Elections will begin shortly.

Arun Sao asserted that Congress was going to lose and said that the people of the state had rejected them. "The Congress party is scared & nervous. Whenever Congress is about to lose or lose, it blames the EVMs and sometimes the Constitution... Congress party is going to lose the elections. The people of Chhattisgarh have rejected them," he said.

Tough fight for Congress as the party has not won consecutive elections in the same state in over two decades and it will be a historic feat for the party if they pulled something like this in Chhattisgarh. The last time Congress successfully defended a government was in Madhya Pradesh in 1993 and 1998, when Digvijaya Singh was Chief Minister and it decimated the BJP - winning 174 and 172 of 230 seats.

Ahead of the counting of votes, the Chhattisgarh Deputy CM T S Singh Deo has predicted their power retention and said the Congress will form a government with a comfortable majority in the state.

Ahead of the counting of votes in Chhattisgarh, two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxalites exploded in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday. The incident occurred when the security personnel were neutralising the explosive concealed in a Maoist banner found near a bridge on the Indravati River. 

Hours before the counting of votes in five states including Chhattisgarh, Congress leader Ajay Maken said that Congress will win the elections and exuded confidence that the party will have 10 per cent more vote share than BJP. 

“The counting is tomorrow and we are completely assured... The Congress will lead the BJP in double digits... It is our analysis that our vote share would be 10% more than the BJP,” Maken told news agency ANI.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is seking third consecutive term from his hometown Patan while his predecessor, BJP's Raman Singh is a candidate from Rajnandgaon. Other key candidates in the fray include Senior Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister TS Singh Deo, BJP's Vijay Baghel and state Congress chief Deepak Baij.

Ahead of the counting of votes in Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya exuded confidence that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win with a complete majority in Chhattisgarh, and  Madhya Pradesh. 

In the 2018 Chhattisgarh Assembly polls, the Congress received an unprecedented victory by winning 68 seats out of 90, putting a decisive end to BJP's 15-year regime.

The Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly has a total of 90 seats. A party must get 46 seats out of the 90 seats to form government in the state.
