Amid Nayanthara's open letter controversy, actor Dhanush has filed a lawsuit against Nayanthara and her husband-filmmaker Vignesh Sivan, over the alleged use of footage from his 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the Netflix documentary.
Dhanush Files Case Against Nayanthara
Through his production company Wunderbar Films, Dhanush has taken legal action and approached the Madras High Court with a lawsuit targeting Nayanthara, Vignesh Sivan and their production house Rowdy Pictures, as reported by The Hindu. The case was heard at the Madras High Court on November 27.
As per reports, the suit claims that certain clips from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan were used without permission in the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, which is currently streaming on the Netflix platform.
Dhanush also served a substantial Rs 10-crore legal notice to the producers of the upcoming documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale, following the release of its trailer. This issue revolves around the documentary's purported inclusion of footage from the 2015 Tamil romantic comedy, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which was produced by Dhanush's production house, Wunderbar Films. The film was written and directed by Vignesh Shivan and featured Nayanthara alongside Vijay Sethupathi in leading roles.
Recape To Nayanthara's Open Letter
The legal dispute follows controversial comments made by Nayanthara, who accused Dhanush of 'festering vengeance' in the letter.
In her open letter, Nayanthara stated “After two long years of battling it out with you for an NOC (No Objection Certificate) and waiting for your approval for our Netflix documentary release, we finally decided to give up, re-edit, and settle for the current version since you declined to permit the usage of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan songs or visual cuts, even the photographs, despite multiple requests.”
Expressing her disappointment, Nayanthara stated, “What’s even more shocking is your legal notice after the release of the trailer of the Netflix documentary. We were startled to read those lines wherein you questioned the usage of some videos (just 3 seconds long) which were shot on our personal devices—BTS visuals that are already very much publicly available on social media—and claimed a sum of Rs. 10 crores as damages for those mere 3 seconds. This is an all-time low for you and says so much about your character. I wish you were half the person you portray yourself to be on stage during audio launches in front of your innocent fans, but clearly, you do not practice what you preach—at least not with me and my partner.”
