Pralay movie Release: Following the record-breaking, historic success of the Dhurandhar franchise, Ranveer Singh is not resting on his laurels. The actor is already preparing for his next massive cinematic venture, titled Pralay. Moving away from the high-stakes espionage of his recent hits, Singh is set to enter a gritty, post-apocalyptic world infested by zombies.
In a recent detailed interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta shared several key insights into the project. Pralay will be directed by Jai Mehta, who previously earned critical acclaim for co-directing Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. The film is a significant financial undertaking, produced under Hansal Mehta’s True Story Films in collaboration with Ranveer Singh’s own production house, Ma Kasam Films.
According to the report, the movie is being mounted on a staggering budget of Rs 300 crore, making it one of the most expensive experimental films in Indian cinema. While there was initial speculation that the story might be based on Jose Saramago's famous 1995 novel, Blindness, Hansal Mehta was quick to dismiss these rumours. He clarified that the script, penned by Jai Mehta and Vishal Kapoor, is a completely original story.
Hansal Mehta stated, “It's not an adaptation. Jay and Vishal Kapoor have written the original story. Further, I think a book like Blindness is not easily adapted to film. I had seen the 2008 film adaptation (starring Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo), and it wasn't great. Writers like Saramago or Salman Rushdie... I feel they are best experienced on paper. Their books lose all their magic when interpreted for cinema."
While the full ensemble is yet to be revealed, Kalyani Priyadarshan, daughter of veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan, has been announced as the female lead. She joins the project following the immense success of her recent film, Lokah. Fans won't have to wait too long for cameras to start rolling, as production is scheduled to commence in mid-2026.
