Rajpal Yadav has been in Tihar jail after turning himself in for a cheque-bounce case concerning his directorial debut, Aata Pata Laapata. The Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 actor borrowed Rs 5 crores from Murgli Project Private Limited to make the movie. He, however, failed to make timely loan repayments. The outstanding amount eventually rose to almost Rs 9 crore due to interest, penalties, and late payments.
Rajpal Yadav’s senior lawyer stated that both parties had tentatively agreed on a repayment schedule for the outstanding balance and that he was prepared to deposit Rs 25 lakh right away. Rajpal Yadav directed Ata Pata Laapata. Sanjay Kumar, Sandeep Nath, Rajpal Yadav, M Saleem, Sanjay Shubhankar, Pradeep Singrole, and Gopal Tiwari all share writing credits for the movie.
Ata Pata Laapata tells the tale of Madhav Chaturvedi, who reports to the police that his entire home has been looted, according to IMDB. He said, "Liye nahi gaye. Invest kiye the unhone financer ke taur pe. Unko apne pote ko hero banana tha. Main Ata Pata Laapata ka director kabhi nahi tha. Main director na hoon aur na rahunga. Main ek actor hoon."
Rajpal Yadav added, "Agar koi cricketer hai toh aap 95 match cricket khelte ho aur 5 kabhi kabhi aap football khel lete ho. Mere liye yeh ek creative experiment tha ki 70 mm pe ek musical chaos... jaise America mein chalta hai Broadway... use kaise 70 mm pe leke aaoon. Uski ek koshish chal rahi thi aur usmein 200 abhinetaaon ne aur 2500 public ne kaam kiya tha. I think Ata Pata Laapata logon ke liye kya woh hai ki Rajpal ne kya Ata Pata Laapata banayi?"
