Dhurandhar is smashing all records created by other films at the box office. The Ranveer Singh starrer is set to enter the 1000 Crore mark in the global market soon. Amid its ongoing success, Aditya Dhar's film has also been surrounded by controversy and criticism, with many debating its alleged propaganda claims. Actor Arjun Rampal, who plays the role of ISI chief Major Iqbal in the film, tracking an undercover Indian agent operating in Pakistan’s Lyari, opened up about why doing this film was important to him. He also shared how he felt 'horrible' portraying the mastermind behind the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai and revealed that he wanted to get out of the character as soon as possible.
In a recent interview with Grazia, Arjun Rampal shared his reason for doing Dhurandhar and why he believes it is an important film. He said, “I wanted to get out of the character as soon as I could. One of the important reasons to do it was because it is an important film to do. To see the event is one thing, but what happened behind the scenes to see those events taking place is something that would excite me as an audience."
Talking further about his character Major Iqbal, the actor added, "I felt horrible when you’re doing it because you love your country so much, but I guess that’s what an actor’s job is, and you just dive into it.”
Arjun Rampal's Role In Dhurandhar
Major Iqbal is portrayed as an ISI officer with alleged involvement in multiple terror strikes against India, especially of the 26/11 terror attack. Arjun's antagonist role added depth and gravitas to the true events-inspired narrative of Aditya Dhar's film.
Apart from Arjun, the spy thriller features Ranveer as Hamza, an Indian spy in Pakistan, while Akshaye Khanna as a Pakistani gangster, Rehman Dakait, Sanjay Dutt and R Madhavan.
Dhurandhar debuted in theatres on December 5 and has earned Rs 592.37 crore so far at the box office. Aditya Dhar is now gearing up for Dhurandhar 2, which is slated to release in theatres on March 19, 2026. Part 2 will face a clash at the box office with Yash’s Toxic, which is slated to release on the same day.
