BTS seemed set with six members until Big Hit Entertainment played its final card and introduced the seventh member. On June 2, 2013, a seventh face was unveiled, and it instantly stood out. Quiet, striking, and full of intrigue—it was Kim Taehyung. Now known as V, he wasn’t just the last reveal; he was the surprise that made the lineup feel complete.

BTS V's First-Ever Audition

Did you know that BTS V joined BigHit in 2011 after going to a friend's audition at random? He wasn't meant to be there. However, following a hectic tryout in which he performed a saxophone solo, danced, and sang.

BTS V talked about how he went to Big Hit Entertainment to support a friend and ended up getting picked in an interview with Rolling Stone. The singer revealed that he was asked to try out for the auditions and that it was a challenging process.

BTS V shared, "BigHit Entertainment asked me if I would like to try out so I said yes. I danced, and they said do you have something else? I sang for them, and they asked do you have anything else to show us? I beatboxed, and they asked what else? I rapped, and they said what else? I brought my saxophone and played it for them, to which they responded do you have anything else to show us? It was then that I finally said no I don’t have anything else to show you."

BTS V trained for two years after joining the company in 2011. He trained in secret, unnoticed, unheard, and unheralded for a full two years. And guess what, V was kept in the dark in 2012 as fans were introduced to RM, Jin, Suga, Jhope, Jimin, and Jungkook one by one. 

Kim Taehyung Announced As A BTS Member

BTS V's first appearance was unveiled on June 2, 2013, just 11 days before the band's official debut, while the other six members were announced as members of the group in 2012.

HYBE creator Bang Si Hyuk clarified that this delay was deliberate to launch a significant figure. But V said, "I actually can’t understand it whatsoever. Why did they do that? Why was that the concept? I really had no idea!"

In 2023, BTS V became the fastest Instagram user to reach 60 million followers, setting a new Guinness World Record.

BTS V Beyond Singing

Kim Taehyung recently discussed his growing interest in stepping outside of his comfort zone and assuming a variety of roles in an interview with Rolling Stone."When I’m acting, part of the point is to try a bunch of different parts that I can’t experience in reality," he said.

With the historical Korean drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, Taehyung made her acting debut almost ten years ago. His latest appearances suggest a resurgence of interest in the craft, even if his career after that was primarily centred on music.
